The JBL VT4886 is an ultra compact, passive 3-way line array element, equipped with two 6.5" woofers, four 2.5" midrange drivers and two 1" pressure chamber tweeters. The use of modern materials and technologies for enclosure and drivers achieves very high performance at a low weight of only 15.9 kg.
In addition to the usual flown operation, the low weight also allows the arrangement on a high stand. Each JBL VT4886 element has a coverage angle of 110°x15° degrees and an impedance of 12 ohms. Thus, up to 4x systems can be driven in parallel on one power amplifier half.
JBL VerTec arrays are units that can be curved to the exact degree and are ultimately rigid in themselves. The alignment and attachment of the individual units to each other is done via Quick Release Pins, with which hinge bars are fixed in the front and rear airfoils.
The JBL VT4886 element is designed to be part of a (vertical) line array of like systems. While the horizontal coverage angle of 110° is achieved by both the single system and the complete array, the vertical coverage pattern of the array depends on its length and contour (adjustable via the rear hinge bars).
The trapezoidal enclosures keep the baffles in contact with each other during any (reasonable) curving to maintain a uniform wavefront. Stable grilles and acoustically transparent foams protect all drivers from rough external influences.
