The dbx530 is a parametric 3-band equalizer for music productions. It can be used to equalize audio signals, i.e. adjust the frequency response, and shape the sound.
The frequency spectrum of the dbx 530 is divided into a bass, mid and treble range. For each range, the volume (+/- 15 dB), frequency and slope can be adjusted.
With parametric equalizers not only a frequency is changed, but also the range around it. How wide this range is (bandwidth) can be adjusted by the slope (filter quality). The processing of whole frequency ranges is very effective and simplifies the fast realization of own sound ideas. Since the 3 bands overlap, special settings can also be realized and the sound creatively modeled.
In order to specifically filter out disturbing frequencies, the slope in each band can be set very narrow-band in the notch filter mode. This effectively removes feedback or resonance. To process the low and high range, the dbx530 has switchable shelving filters (cow tail filters). Frequencies can thus be boosted or cut above and below a specified characteristic frequency. In contrast to the bell-shaped frequency change by the equalizer, the cow tail filter has a dynamically rising or falling course. Both filters serve to give the signal more warmth, transparency or clarity.
For comparison between the original and processed signal, it is possible to switch at any time.
