The JBL M2 is a 2-way reference monitor that meets the highest demands. As the main monitor, the JBL M2 provides excellent acoustic working conditions for wall mounting or free-standing operation.

The 2-way concept reduces the critical transition areas of multi-way systems to a crossover frequency at 800 Hz.

New, patented transducers in both the high-frequency and low-frequency ranges are the basis for the uncompromising 2-way design.

In the high frequency range, a D2 (2430K) driver is used. At the heart of this driver are 2 ring diaphragms, each driven by its own voice coil. The advantage of this technology is the significantly reduced moving mass of a large domed 3" or 4" diaphragm compared to conventional drivers. This allows for much better impulse response and an extended frequency range up to 40 kHz. In addition, the drive ratio of the two voice coils to the diaphragm mass and weight is further optimized. The also newly developed tweeter waveguide ensures a balanced dispersion of 120°x100°. A wide listening base is created even in large studios.

In the low frequency range, the 2216Nd (15") is used. This differential drive chassis has a highly efficient neodymium magnet, which is positioned centrally in the coil. This position creates two air gaps that drive two voice coils. This increases the driving force acting on the diaphragm. The result is an optimal transient response of the diaphragm with very low distortion, high sound pressure and extended low frequency response.

The JBL M2 reference monitor is driven by external amplifiers and DSP (optional). Crown I-Tech 5000HD power amplifiers with integrated DSP processor or alternatively Crown MA5000i power amplifiers with separate BSS Soundweb London DSP are recommended. These external DSPs are pre-programmed with equalization and an elaborate 800 Hz crossover. The filters correct the respective phase and optimally match the two transducers. The result is an extremely balanced frequency response with high directional localization and enormous depth.

Several factory-protected presets can be selected for different applications. Additional adaptation to the respective room acoustics is possible through further open parameters in the DSP.
